Save it for later!
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I’m Maria, a Fashion Designer who has been working as a Pinterest Strategist since 2015. Almost every single time I say what I do for a living, people reply “Oh! I love Pinterest, I use it for inspiration and ideas about Recipes/Home Decor/wallpapers/Outfits,… “, and the list is endless.
But when I ask an Entrepreneur, a Content Creator, or a Brand Owner why they are not on Pinterest they say “I don’t understand it”, “I don’t see how it can be useful for my content”, “People in my country don’t use it”, “There are only women there”,… and the list of fake myths continues.
Today, I’ll give those Pinterest naysayers five great tips to get started on Pinterest. These tips are the very very very first step to Pinterest Marketing, but they will take you only a few minutes and I’m sure you will see results!
1. Create a Business Pinterest Account
First of all, the main task is creating a Pinterest Account for your business. Make sure it’s a business and not a personal account. Try to choose the same username you have on other platforms. Even if you are just in the planning stages of your business, create that account now, and you will thank me later.
2. Claim your Website
So, the very first thing we need to do on Pinterest is to claim our website, follow this tutorial on how to claim your website. If you don’t have a website and your content is only on Instagram, don’t worry. We will talk about it later but… please… I beg you, replicate all your Instagram content on a platform that you own. A platform that people can visit and find your content without having to tap on 18934million of highlighted Instagram Stories. I’ll talk more about why you need to have your own website later on this blog, so follow me to get that data too.
3. Update your Profile
Your profile on the platform acts like an online shopping window. Inside your profile, you have all your content organized in beautifully curated and organized boards, but people won’t find your profile if it’s not optimized. Write a short but keyword-stuffed biography, add your name, your profile picture or logo, and a captivating static image on your profile Cover. Most of the traffic on Pinterest comes from searches, but if you already have an audience, they will more likely visit your profile or search your name + your content to find your recipes/outfits… Don’t stress too much about this one, you can always edit it later.
4. Create at least one Pinterest Board
I know Pinterest is not your priority now, but come on, at least one optimized board deserves your time. Use your name if you are an established brand/creator, or use your main keywords/topics if you are just starting and use it on your main board. It will be the first board of your profile and it will have all your content. Write an interesting and keyword-stuffed description for the board, it’s important for SEO!
5. Connect your Pinterest to your Instagram Account
This feature is hot off the press. It was launched a few weeks ago and we are already loving it. This is the easiest task, it will take you literally two minutes:
- Open both your Pinterest and Instagram accounts on the same browser and connect them.
- Visit the Claimed accounts section of your Profile Settings.
- Claim your Instagram account – and do it now, don’t procrastinate on this easy task. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like.
Now that your accounts are connected, Pinterest will publish all your recent content from your Instagram feed to your profile. The Instagram stories will not be posted, so don’t count on that content to be automatically published on the platform.
I strongly recommend taking some time to edit the descriptions of your Instagram pins. For example, having a pin talking about Black Friday will make absolutely no sense on Pinterest. But I know it takes time and I said it will take just 15 minutes so let’s make this step optional.
Now your account is ready to start growing! It should look something like this:
